SCARED CONFERENCE.
MARCH OP THE PIPERS. General Sir lan Hamilton told a story of how the Gordon Highlanders' pipers scared the'delegates at a World Economic Conference banquet and were thanked by Mr. Eamsay Mac Donald for their services. Sir lan, who was presiding at the opening of the Gordons' new barracks at the Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, said that the 500 delegates were dining in London when, without warning, the Gordons suddenly entered and marched round the banqueting hall playing "Cock o' the North." For a moment the delegates were terror-stricken, thinking that ma-ssacre was about to commence, and in the profound relief of discovering that this was an entertainment, became so amenable to the arguments of the Prime Minister that Mr. Mac Donald wrote their colonel a letter praising the pipers for the excellent service they had rendered.
