Mr. Vincent Aspcy returned to Auckland by the Limited this morning. Mr. R. Cecil Burgess, of Remuera, returned by the Lurline yesterday afternoon from Suva. Mr. A. Luke and Mr. H. W. Frost were among the passengers for Auckland by the Limited this morning. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., chairman of the Railways Appeal Board, left for the South by the Limited last night. The Rev. H. J. Lilburn, of Whakatane, has been invited to accept the charge of the Hamilton East Presbyterian Church. Mr. G. A. Hardley, of Auckland, who has been on a health trip to the United States, returned by the Lurline yesterday. , I Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding the Northern Command, returned from the South by the Limited this morning. Mr. A. Rowlands, joint general" manager of W. and R. Fletcher, Limited, returned by the Lurline yesterday after a tour abroad. The Wellington Hospital Board has appointed Dr. H. Bayldon Ewen, late medical superintendent of the hospital, to the position of assistant physician.
Lieutenant-Colonel A. Dore, of England, arrived by the Lurline yesterday with Mrs. Dore on a business visit to the Dominion. They are at the Grand Hotel. Paymaster-Commander M. V. Duke, of H.M.S. Philomel, who was recently relieved by Paymaster-Lieutenant-Com-mander C. H. Law, will leave by the Lurline to-day on his way to England. Mr. A. Main, manager of the Waitemata Electric Power Board, is leaving by the Lurline to-day on a health trip to China and Japan. Accompanied by Mrs. Main, he expects to return about the middle of March.
Lord Barnby, who arrived by the Lurline yesterday on a month's visit to New Zealand, left for Wellington with his nephew, Mr. A. Ponsonby, by the Limited last night, and will be the guest of Lord and Lady Galway during the week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Tapley, of Dunedin, returned by the Lurline yesterday after two months' holiday in the United States. They visited their son, Colin, who is now acting in Hollywood films. They left for Wellington by the express this afternoon.
Messrs. Peter B. Blanchard, jun., and Norcross Tilney, outstanding young American tennis players, were passengers on the Lurline for Sydney. They intend to fly from there to France before returning to the States to complete their university studies.
Mr. James R. Lockie, assistant city solicitor to the Wellington City Council, who left on a holiday visit to England about six months ago, has forwarded his resignation to the City Council. He has accepted the position of deputy-clerk to the Ayrshire County Council, Scotland, at a salary of £1000 a year.
Superintendent A. T. Emerson, who has been attached to the Police Force for 43 years and who has been stationed in Wellington since 1926, will retire on March 3 of next year, and will begin three months' retiring leave on December 3. Superintendent Emerson was promoted to his present rank in 1920.
