CHASED GIRLS.
MOTORIST FACES CHARGES. OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOUR. "This man is either an irresponsible hoodlum or there is something wrong mentally," saitl Sub-Inspector Fox in the Police Court to-day, referring to Maximus Brand, who faced five charges, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., concerning the driving of a motor car. Mr. Elwarth appeared for accused. On the charge of abusive behaviour accused was fined £3. and on that of giving a false name £2. On September (3, Sub-Inspector Fox said, the accused was driving his car on the New North Road. Two girls, aged 14 and 17, passed riding bicycles. Accused followed them in his car and drove so close to them that they were forced olf the road. That was done on six occasions in several streets, until finally one of the girls went into her home. Then accused drove up and down in front of her house. That had led to a charge of offensive behaviour. On another occasion accused was sitting with companions in a car parked in the Domain. When asked by a constable for his name ho gave the wrong name and failed to produce his license. "The conduct of my client in regard to the girls was stupid," said Mr. Elwarth. But accused had told him that he was cranking his car, an old model, when the girls passed and made some remarks about the age of his car. What followed was an effort by accused to show his car's efficiency. In regard to the other affair in the Domain, accused had given the name by which ho had been introduced to a woman, and had he produced his license the "fat would have been in the fire." "If we see you any more," commented Mr. Hunt, "you will lose your license."
