WAIHI STRIKE.
NO SETTLEMENT. CONFERENCE CONTINUED. POINTS IN THE DISPUTE. I A further meeting of the conference in an endeavour to effect a settlement of the Waihi mining strike was held at the Chief Post Office this morning, but up to the luncheon adjournment the matter was still under discussion. The Minister of Labour, Mr. Hamilton, is presiding over the conference, and the representatives of the Martha Goldmining Company are Messrs, 1!. G. Milligan, H. W. Hopkins and If. E. Williams. The representatives of the men arc Messrs. E. Dye, VV. Bice and W. Lynch for the Miners' Union, Messrs. J. Kedgwell and C. Jennings for the Amalgamated Engineers, Messrs. A. Ritchie and D. O'Shea for the Enginedrivers and Winders' Union, and Messrs. L. Fee and K. Fasher for the Carpenters and Joiners' Union. The question at issue is whether the increased w;age rates conceded by the company should be made retrospective from* May 11, the date on" which the Martha Company came into existence. About 050 workers are involved in the dispute.
