TENNIS.
WESLEY CLUB. Tho Wesley Young Men's Institute Tennis Club was favoured with excellent wentlier on Saturday when the courts were officially opened in the presence of a record gathering of over 80. The opening was performed by Mr. K. J. Kosser, who spoke of the tirst W.Y.M.I. Club, 20 years ago. Opportunity was taken in view of Ills approaching marriage to makQ, a presentation to Mr. F. h. Harris, who lias held the office of captain, vice-captain and treasurer during various periods of the last live years. The opening ceremony was followed by a progressive tournament, the winners being Miss G. Tonkin and G. Mcllwraitli. OTAHUHU CLUB. The courts, of the Otnhuliu Tennis Club were in perfect condition on Saturday afternoon, when they were declared open for the 1935-30 season by the president. Mr. A. Arkinstall. Among the many present were members of kindred clubs, including three players from the Auckland Tennis Association, Mr. F. Harrison (president), Mr. X. C. Pierce (secretary) and Mr. Len. Williamson. A progressive tournament was staged throughout the afternoon, the winners of which were:—Ladies, Mrs. Soutliby and Miss Nancy Fearnlcy; men, A. A. Tetley. HENDERSON CLUBS. Tiie Henderson Tennis Club commenced its 103.-,-30 season oil Saturday afternoon. Mr. Kills, vice-president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, and patron of the Western Suburbs Association, performed the opening ceremony. During the course of his speech Mr. Kills gave a brieE survey of.the growth of the A.L.T.A., men-' tionlng the fact that membership had grown from 1200 in 1020 to GSOO. The Holy Cross Tennis Club convmenecd | its new season on Saturday, with the addition of a new court. Owing to the illness of the club's patron, the Rev. Father Colgan, the captain, Mr. T. Kcary, made the opening speech. Miss E. Cownane serving the first ball. i
