BIG ROAD RACE. PALMERSTON TO WELLINGTON WATSON WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Fnlmcrston North reports advised that fine, windy weather prevailed to-day, when the competitors were sent away in the I'almerston-Wellington professional road race at 0.30 a.m. sharp. A field of -10 faced the starter, the only defection being Bieknoll (Auckland), but Fratnoy (Auckland), who registered fastest time in the round-the-mouhtain race last year, was" a late entry,'starting from scratch. This made six riders off the back mark. The riders faced u westerly breeze in the llrst part of the race. Results :— H. Snowden (New Plymouth), 10.0 1 I. Watson had fastest time, the next fastest being L. Thomas (lh 10m 15s) and Snowden. HAMILTON TO AUCKLAND. ENTRIES FOU CHAMPIONSHIP. Entries totalling 48 have bopn received for. the annual Hamilton - to Auckland classic road cycle race, for cash wheelmen to be held next Saturday, October 19, In which the North Island and provincial championships are involved. The race is again being controlled by the Auckland Cycle Club, which has promoted the event for the past eight years. The finish this year will be at Cornwall Park, Epsom, on a special track provided by the trustees. The scratch men will leave Hamilton at noon, and the winner should show up at the finish somewhere about 3.30 p.m. Entries received are:—P. J. Wisnewski (Stratford), T. Smith (New Plymouth), G. l>. AUCKLAND CLUB. Perfcct weather conditions prevailed on Saturday for the Auckland Cycle Club's road events at I'anjnure. Junior, senior and ladies' races were held, in which good tields competed. Twelve started in the 10-niilc junior event. Result:—L. Craddock (50s), time 27.0, 1 : G. Collier (3.20), 2; .T. Stuart (2.10), 3; C. Stanaway (2.30), 4. The winner also recorded fastest time. Fifteen started in the 10J miles senior. Itesult:—K. Edkins (3.20), time 48.2, 1; K. Ranks (2.50), 2; C. Knight (2.50), 3; It. Absolum (5.0), 4. W. Chisliolm (1.0) recorded fastest tkue in 47.23. The result of the ladies' 11 miles race for a cup donated by Mr. J. Harrison resulted as follows:—Miss F. Westbury (3.0), 1; Mrs. S. Fussell (6.0), 2; Mrs. E. Harrison (scr) and fastest, 3.
