MOTOR "TAGS."
UNATTENDED CARS. SEVERAL WARNINGS GIVEN. "This is rather a surprise to me. I liavo been led to believe by offenders who appear here that the traffic officers are inclined to harass motorists, but now we have the statement that four, five and even half a dozen warnings have been given before a prosecution was made." These remarks were made by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., this morning when imposing fines of 10/ and costs 10/ on motorists who had left their cars unattended in Queen Street for an hour or more. One motorist came from Wellington to defend a charge of speeding, and said he was ignorant of the fact that 40 miles an hour must not be exceeded on any unsealed road. The speeding occurred near Henderson. He was fined £1 and costs 10/. One defendant who had failed to mention when applying for a renewal of his driver's license that he had been convicted previously was fined £4 and costs.
