POSITION FILLED.
SUPERINTENDENT APPOINTED LIVELY MEETING OF BOARD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Only one application for tlie position of medical superintendent at the Waihi Hospital, vice Dr. L. R. Hetherington, who resigned, was received at a meeting of the Hospital Board last evening. No applications were received for the position of house surgeon. After some discussion the board decided to appoint Dr. A. Jenkins, of Pukemiro, to the position, subject to the approval of the Minister of Health. Dr. Jenkins is a graduate of the Sydney University Modical School, and lias had experience in largo Australian hospitals, having held the position of acting-superintendent. He lias been 12 months in New Zealand, and holds office under the Pukemiro Medical Association. He possesses excellent recommendations. With reference to the appointment 01 a house surgeon, it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Johnston, that an appeal for assistance in procuring such an officer be made to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical School at Dunedin, and that his attention be drawn to the advertisement published in the Press by the secretary of the British Medical Association. It was also decided to invito applications for the position. Miss Isabel J. Fleming, of Otaliuliu, was appointed to the nursing staff. Lively exchanges between tlio chairman and Messrs. Johnston and Campbell took place when the appointment of a matron was discussed, it being stated that Miss Paora, of Christchurch, was not prepared to accept the position. After a prolonged and stormy discussion Mr. Campbell moved .that Mrs. Paddock, of Parr.ell, be appointed in a temporary capacity, pending the approval of the Minister of Health. Mr. Johnston seconded. An amendment by Mr. Copestake that fresh applications for the position be invited was lost, and the motion was carried.
