MARRIED TO ALIENS.

WOMEN IN NEW ZEALAND. ENROLMENTS FOR ELECTION. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The question of the enrolment for the general election this year of New Zealand women married to aliens, was raised in the House of Representatives to-day by the liev. Clyde Carr (Labour, Timaru), who addressed an urgent question to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Sir Alexander Young. Mr. Carr stated that he had been informed that such women had recently been refused enrolment by registrars. The Minister replied that the necessary instructions had been issued to registrars of electors that such women were eligible for registration on the electoral roll after complying with the requirements of the law. A New Zealand woman who was a British subject prior to marriage with an alien, and who had acquired the nationality of the husband, said the Minister, may make a declaration under Section 3 of the British Nationality and Status of Aliens (in New Zealand) Act, 1934-35, that she desired to retain, while in New Zealand, tho rights of a British subject. A woman in this category should make application and remit the prescribed fee to the Department of Internal Affairs for the necessary forms and instructions to enable her to make the declaration. When the declaration had been executed before a stipendiary magistrate and duly registered in the Department, she was qualified to become registered as an elector.
