Tlio Peking correspondent of "The Times" says thousands more lives have been lost in the floods in northern Kiangsu. The entire town of Machengan is submerged. Northern Ilofian also is severely suffering, wliilo the southern part of the province is in the grip of famine in consequence of drought. Refugees arc reduced to eating the roots of grass and the bark of trees. Desperate parents are selling children for a handful of rice.
