DEFICIT EXPECTED.
Drought and State Finances In Queensland. SMALL TAXATION RELIEF. (Received 11.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. The Labour Premier and Treasurer, Mr. Forgan Smith, presenting the State Budget, predicted a deficit of £1,102,373 for the current year. He declared that but for the recent drought there would have been a reasonable prospect of balancing the Budget. Anticipated receipts total £15,036,810, and expenditure £10,199,183. A reduction of Id in the £ in the unemployment relief tax is the only taxation relief.
