RUSH AGAINST INVADER.

REPORTED RECAPTURE OF ADOWA.

NATIVES THROW THEMSELVES ON ENEMY.

Mr. Noel Monks reports that disobeying the Emperor's orders, half a million Abyssinian warriors have flung themselves at the invading Italians on the northern frontier and are fighting like madmen to retrieve the ground given up, while the Emperor's son-in-law, Ras Raile Silassie Engsha, with 15,000 men, has actually invaded Eritrea.

The most startling news to-day is that, swooping down on three sides, the Abyssinians recaptured Adowa in the same manner as they did 40 years ago. Although this information was received from high Government officials, it is not confirmed.

The Abyssinians have gone war mad, and, because their action threatens the Emperor's cherished peace hopes, the veteran War Minister, Ras Mullouguetta, who fought at Adowa 40 years ago, is expected to leave for the front immediately with the object of restoring discipline. Leaders here, however, think that matters-are now out of hand.

It is reported from Ogaden that the Italians are progressing in their advance towards Jijiga and Harrar, but they have not yet met the vanguard of the 400,000 Abyssinians in position on that front.

The report that the Italians captured Aksum was premature. The Italians are preparing to deliver an attack on the holy city from the east and north on Wednesday. The village of Edaga Hamus, ten miles east of Adowa, has been captured.
