SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The Eden and Epsom Lawn Tennis Club held a very enjoyable bridge evening at St. Alban's Avenue on Monday evening. Mrs. Johns and Mrs. Young received the guests. Prizes were won by Miss K. Melville and Mr. Lees. Amongst others present were Mesdames Rickerby, Hicks, Kirkup, Cornes, Stevens, Ashcroft, Otter, Misses White, Lane, Lowry, Edwards, Knight, Ramsay, Whitelaw, Henden, Melville, Dignan,i Jackman..

Members of the Query Club arranged a very enjoyable bridge nnd mah jong afternoon yesterday at the home of Mrs. J. S. L. Stewart, Balmoral Road, Mount Eden. The proceeds were in aid of the club's charitable work. Miss L. Dunnet was the prize winner for bridge, and Mrs. S. Haycock for inah j° n ß° ....

At the Mount Albert Methodist schoolroom Miss Ivy Sloore and Miss Olive Worger Thomas were entertained at a kitchen evening by members of the church and choir. Both have been members of the choir for some years and are held in high esteem by the church. In addition to many useful gifts for the kitchen, each of the guests were presented with a crystal salad bowl and cream jug by the choir members with every good wish for a happy married life. During the evening musical items and games were also enjoyed by the large company present. • . • •

A very happy evening was spent by the children of the Alexandra Kindergarten at the Mount Albert Methodist schoolroom on Saturday last, when the pupils gathered for a farewell party in honour of the headmistress, Miss Olive Worger Thomas, who is shortly to be married. A delightful programme of songs, recitations, dances, etc., was given by the children, who were prettily dressed in fancy costumes. A large number of parents and friends thoroughly enjoyed the many items. During the evening a presentation was made to Miss Thomas of an oak clock suitably inscribed. The children were entertained at supper at the close of the evening.
