The announcement made last month that mi agreement lind been reached between the Auckland Yacht mid Motor Boat Association mid tlie southern yachting associations, which will secure tlie re-estnblish-ment of the Sanders Cup contest, witli Auckland joining in as usual, lias created much interest in local and southern yachting circles.

At the annual meeting ot the Wellington Provincial Yachting Association held last week Captain W. J. Keane presiding, correspondence' was read from tlie Auckland mid southern associations regarding the contest, mid it was agreed that it be held in Auckland as near as possible to January 21), Auckland’s Anniversary Day. It was also decided that tlie trials to select tlie Wellington challenging boat and crew be hold at the end ot . The Idle'.'Along contest was fixed lor Februmy to coincide with the return from Auckland of tlie southern Sanders Cup crews. A cup will be provided lor lue Idle-Along annual contest in memory of the late Mr. J. Moffat.

Captain Keane gave notice of his intention to move nt tlie next meeting Hint the llona-Jellieoe contest for Colonel Campbell's cup be decided on a series of five races on a points basis, and that the boat mid crew winning the cup shall represent tlie province in tlie Sanders Cup contest in Auckland. The effect of the motion Is that the trials will actually decide the erew in tlie local contest for the RonaJellieoe championship mid Wellington’s challenger for the Sanders Cup at the same time.

The Auckland association's Sanders Cup committee will meet next week to further discuss matters in connection with the eoiiiing contest on the Wnitematn. In tlie meantime tlie Tmnnki Yacht Club, which is particularly keen on having the contest on Hie Waitemata again, lias made all arrangements to billet the visiting crews amongst its members. Tlie officials from southern centres may also be provided for at one of Auckland's popular hotels. The clubhouse and slipway of tlie TnnuiKi Club will lie placed at the disposal of the visitors and the ladies' committee has agreed to look after their entertainment. The question has be-n asked what Hie new restricted class suggested by th<> Tmnaki Club really is? “Speedwell's” idea of the matter is that no new class is intended. The club's intentions in this matter were printed mid circulated to eacli of Hie 1(1 affiliated Auckland clubs mid to the southern associations. Briefly, I hey expressed the desire for tlie re-estab-lishment of tlie Jellieoe class on Hie same lines as Hie former 14ft one-design class, both as regards hull, spurs, sail mid design on tlie 1923 plan. To allow n little more latitude in building, with a view partly to lesson the cost and prevent disagreements about strict measurements, the name of “one-design” class is to be changed to “restricted” class. This has been approved by southern .associations, subject to ratification nt the conference of delegates of provinces actually taking part in tlie next contest, which will be held in Auckland in January, prior to tlie first race. There are many other matters which this conference will be called on to decide. If they are all approached in a spirit of friehdllness and with Hie intention of arriving nt a fair and equitable basis for future contests for the Sanders Clip. "Speedwell” lias no fear of their success. All that is necessary is a spirit of tolerance for Hie other fellow's views and acknowledgment of tile fact tliat southern yachtsmen are just as keen as we are.
