ST. JOHN APPEAL.
MANY WILLING WORKERS. GOOD RESPONSE INDICATED. Although a count of the proceeds will not ibe made until this evening indications ore that the annual street appeal of the St. John Ambulance Association held to-day will bo most satisfactory. Throughout the day many willing helpers patrolled vantage points throughout the city and suburbs selling badges. The public appeared to respond cheerfully to the request for a contribution and several instances of bank notes given are reported by the collectors. The stall at the Ferry Buildings was in charge of the Akarana Maori Association and. in addition to the badpes, baskets of ferns, donated by the Orakei Maoris, were offered for sale and the proceeds put into the collecting boxes. This novel method of helpinfr the St. John Ambulance was suggested by a former natient of the association who organised the Orakei Maoris to contribute the ferns.
