AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE TEAM. ENTERTAINED AT LUNCHEON. The visiting Australian League team were the guests of the directors of George Court and Sons, Ltd., at an informal luncheon in the firm's'private 'estaurant yesterday. Mr. T. G Symonds, managing director, who presided, and Mr. G. F. Court represented tlio directors. In welcoming the team, Sir. Symonds said that lie had heard nothing but praise of them. While lie was glad to learn that the financial succcss of their tour was assured, he wished to point out that that was of minor importance compared to their success in promoting good fellowship between the Commonwealth and the Dominion. On behalf of the team, Mr. 11. Sunderland, joint manager with Sir. Chascling. assured their hosts that they would take back to Australia evidence of the progress the League game had made in New Zealand. "Associated with the game here are a number of men who lend it strength and dignity," he remarked. "The financial succcss of the tour will show that officials and players here are doing their jobs and that is the only value we put 011 it." He said that he hoped New Zealand would soon be able to send a strong team overseas and he hoped tha/ the firm who were their hosts to-day would have a representative in it.

The president of the New Zealand Rugby League, Sir. C. Sneddon, said that Messrs. George Court and Son's hospitality to the Australian team was also an indirect tribute to the League game in New Zealand and 011 behalf of its supporters he thanked the directors. He said that lie hoped that soon, if not as soon as Saturday next. New Zealand would have a team well worthy of a place in international football. The Australians had made a very favourable impression, both in Wellington and in Auckland, and New Zealand players had learned much from them that would be usefully employed against the English team next season.

Mr. Grey Campbell, chairman of the Auckland Rugby League, also thanked the directors both for past favours and their hospitality of to-day. Tie sn'd that there were many League supporters in the firm's employ and heads of departments must have had many applications for an afternoon off last Wednesday.

A copy of the menu, autographed by the members of the tenm. was presented to Mr. Svmonds by Mr. Sunderland.
