STOLEN FOWLS.
EARLY MORNING ARREST. LABOURER REMANDED. Four dead fowls in a sack comprised an exhibit which reposed at the feet of Sub-Inspector Fox in the Police Court this morning. John Leggatt Meek, aged 25, labourer, was charged with stealing the fowls, valued at 12/(5, the property of some person unknown. He pleaded guilty, and Sub-Inspector Fox told Mr. W. R*. McKean, S.M., that shortly after 1 o'clock this morning Constable Cromwell, while on duty in Franklin Road, Ponsonby, found Meek in possession of the dead birds. "This man had with him a pair of sand shoes, specially for the purpose of stealing the fowls," added the inspector, "these being in addition to the shoes lie was wearing. There was another man with him. Meek gave a wrong name and a false address to the constable, and I would a6k that he be remanded until Friday next for sentence, so that we can make inquiries about both men." Sleek was remanded for sentence.
