DOMINIONS' POSITION.
NOT LIKELY TO BE INVOLVED. MUSSOLINI WILL ADMIT SANCTIONS. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 3. The first news of hostilities received at Whitehall came from Ceneva and caused shock and not surprise. It Is thought now that things Will happen without a declarat.on of war. Immediately the commencement of war was reported the Sun-Herald news service sought authoritative British opinion on how the Empire would be likely to be affected and the extent to which the Dominions might be involved. The reply in effect was that neither New Zealand, Australia nor the other Dominions need be anxious » n ° st Unllkely that Britain and the Dominions will be involved in war. Cabinet Ministers, it is stated, are satisfied with the solidarity of Britain and the Dominions at Geneva for collective security and will participate in economic sanctions against Italy. Signor Mussolini having stated categorically that he will not regard such measures as constituting war, it is clear that Britain will accept Mussolini s assurance.
