TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Although the markets arc nervous mainly in Australian sections, New Zealand issues are fairly stationary. Buyers are quite willing to operate. A tew values slipped, notably Broken Hill, with sellers down to £2 12/9, buyers £2 11/0. British Tobaccos changed hands at £1 17/0, £1 17/8 and then .01 17/0. at which price there were further sellers. Glass was lower at £3 17/, closing with buyers £3 16/9, sellers £3 18/. Banks were quiet. Buyers of Commercials dropped to l»vl«Preferences were firm, from £9 10/ to 11/6. New South Wales were on offer at less than £32. The Government section was dull. There were sellers of 1940 stock at £102 2/6, 1949 at £109 10/, with very few buyers. £101 10/ was offered for 1940 stock In insurances there were sellers alone at reduced rates. Nationals were on offer at £1 0/2, South British at. £4 11/9 and Standards at £3 10/9. Mining was devoid of interest, with no business. Woolworths (Sydney) had lower buyers at £o anil sellers £5 5/0.
