STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

A DELAYED RECOVERY. W. J. Brougliton is likely to be longer out of tlio saddle than was expected. After his accident at the Grand National meeting, when ho suffered a fractured leg, he returned to Palmcrston North well oil the way to recovery. It has since been found necessary to rebreak a bone in liis leg and he is again in hosiiital. A BRIGHT FUTURE. Grey Honour promises to be a good performer and it would not be surprising to find a big winner this season (says a southern writer). Unfortunately lie was not nominated for the Dunediri Guineas, as lie would appear to have brighter prospects in that classic than liis stablemate, Glenavon, who appears in the list. NOT GOING TO PAEROA. -Valspear is not to fulfil his engagements at Paeroa, but there is nothing wrong with the son of Speardance. He ran a good race in the Maiden Plate at Avondale and met with some interference at the home turn, only for which lie would have been a lot closer. Valspear will not be raced at the Auckland meeting, but will make liis next appearance at Te ltapa next month. MAKING GOOD HEADWAY. Maori Song, a two-year-old chestnut colt by Hunting Song from Mungakino, has improved perceptibly during the last month and has furnished into a solidlooking youngster. So far he has not been tested for speed, but lie is a particularly good-aetioned colt, and his breeding leaves nothing to be desired, for his dam is by All Black from Mongonui, by Carbine from Moonga, the dam of Seahorse. NOT BEING OVERTAXED. Parkliurst has not been required to do any strenuous tasks since the Pakuranga Hunt meeting and he will not be raced again till later in the season. He was going well in the Greenmount Steeplechase at tliat fixture when lie came to grief at the first fence on top of the hill the last time, and if ho had stood up ho looked more than a possibility. The fall was a nasty one and lie has taken time to recover from it. However, he is a most promising 'chaser. DISPLAY WAS ENCOURAGING. The Gisbornc-owned 'chaser Puccini had his introduction to the Ellerslie country yesterday morning, when he was sent for a round over the big fences in company with Capella Abbey. He pulled hard over the early stages and ran about a bit at his fences, but otherwise gave an encouraging display. This well-bred jumper should be improved by the time the Auckland meeting comes along, and it would not be surprising to see him make a bold showing in his races. A BIG BURDEN. Pasouli, carrying 12.0, ran quite a good race at Orari 011 Saturday. He tailed the field for more than three parts of the journey, jumping well and maintaining an even pace which got him into fourth place at the finish, owing mainly to most of the remaining contestants either being eliminated or pulled up. Rasouli looks well and should soon return to the winning list, provided the weight allotted him last week is not an indication of how lie will be treated in later engagements. DISTANCE WILL SUIT HER. Since the Avondale meeting Fleetwind has gone along the right way in her work at Ellerslie and she shaped nicely in a half-mile sprint yesterday morning. This filly made an excellent showing in the Champion Hack Plate at Avondale till the straight, but was not quite forward enough to see out seven furlongs. She is engaged in the Gordon Handicap, six furlongs, at Ellerslie to-morrow week, and as the distance is 111010 in her favour Flcetwind is likely to take part in the finish. AN IMPROVED HORSE. Gascellc looks better now than at any previous stage of his career and the race lie had at Avondale has benefited him a good deal. Yesterday morning at Ellerslie he was schooled over the big fences on the flat and gave a capital display of jumping. Now that the going is firmer Gascellc is likely to do a lot better in his races and he cannot bo left out of calculations in jumping events he contests at the Auckland spring meeting. R. E. Thomson, who rode him at Avondale, will again be his pilot. A PROFICIENT HURDLER. Fleeting Glance suffered badly from soreness after her race 011 the first day of the Geraldino meeting last week and was under treatment until slic was produced again 011 Saturday. She went down very scratchily in Iter preliminary, but when warmed up she showed her best form and gained a meritorious win. It is to be hoped that her leg trouble wilj not again restrict her activities, as there is 110 doubt about her ability as a hurdler when in the right order. CAN GO FAST. The West Coast gelding Bon Tray gave a good exhibition of speed in each of his races at Gcraldine last week. Kinnoull. a smart three-year-old, just beat him 011 the first day, while on Saturday he hung 011 well to secure the honours in a hard finish. He may never go much further than six furlongs, but he will win plentv of races. Ho is a five-year-old by Tea Tray from Endorse, by Paper Money from Epitaph, a brilliant sprinter by Absurd from Eulogy, so it is no matter for surprise that he has such pace.
