RACING AT PAEROA.

TAUMARUNUI MEETING.

fields for to-morrow.

THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED,

Tho annual meeting of the Taumarunui Racing Club, which was to have been held at Paeroa on Saturday and Monday last, and had to be postponed on account of rain, will open to-morrow. Tho track is stated to be in good order, and as fairly good fields are engaged in the majority of the races a good afternoon's sport should be provided. The betting will be win and place. The Juveniles. Scratchings have reduced tho field in the Juvenile Handicap to two —Te Maranui and Abbess of Whitby. The latter raced at Avondale and therefore most money may come for ABBESS OF WHITBY The Hurdles. Imperial Prince, who is at the head of the hurdles field, has not raced since last May, but he has previously raced well on this course, while Lord Val's effort at Avondale and his schooling at Ellerslie subsequently shows that ho is on the improve. London was third in the Great Northern Steeplechase, while Prince Val ■was third and second respectively in his races at Avondale, and he should be hard to dispose of. Of the others Street Dancer and En Tour look the most likely. The public may go for PRINCE VAL LONDON EN TOUR. The Hack Cup. A dozen figure in the Hack Cup. Killatlar is a good galloper when at his best, but he has not raced since the Takapuna spring meeting in November last year. Mazir won tho Moana Handicap, six furlongs, at the Takapuna summer meeting and was placed on other occasions last season. He galloped well at Te Aroha yesterday, and, seeing he had a run at the vfakuranga meeting, when he was slow away, he should be as forward as the great majority of the others. Salesman was cxpected to win at that fixture, but he disappointed. lie may go better to-morrow. Landlubber has had a good deal of racing recently, having started on seven occasions this season without getting into the money. However, he is a possibility. Keith Lu was third over a mile at Te Rapa last May, while at the recent Avondale meeting he was seventh in the Champion Hack Plate and improved his position a little at the encT of the New Lynn Handicap. Holly Lu had little to his credit last season, and the same applies to Kanapa. Pound Sterling was a promising two-year-old, but as a three-year-old only raced once last season. The bulk of the money may eome for MAZIR SALESMAN KEITH LU. May Be Divided. The Trial Handicap, owing to the large number of acceptors, may be divided, the totalisator only being open once. Sweet Lap is stated to be*;goin£ well, •While Racing Lady, Armacourt, Etcetera and Ringshot have been galloping pleasingly at Ellerslie. Thangi Lamba has also been going along nicely at Takanim. Gloucester was third to Sweet Lap and CaTshot over six furlongs at the Te Kuiti meeting at Te Rapa last May, but is stated to be an unlikely starter, while Vaispear, Tidalia, Ringshot, Red Flame and Etcetera will not make the trip. Miss Hornet had four starts last season, being placed twice at Opotiki- and once at Tauranga. Charmary is stated to 'he promising. A preference may be shown for RACING LADY MISS HORNET THANGI LAMBA. The Chief Event.

Owing to the withdrawal of Gay Marigold and Sir Abb there arc only eight left in the Cup. Gay Rose, who is on top, should be improved by her two outings at Avondale during the week-end. Prince Val has an engagement in tlie hurdles as well as the Cup, and if started he should go well. Baroscope has disappointed recently, but he usually races well on this course. He has been galloping well at Ellerslie during the past week. Imamint, after lier dual victory at Avondale, looks the logical favourite. Bonny Ga;/ won a double at Paeroa in March, while "Velocipede would only need to stay on to have a chance, but it is. a big task to set a three-year-old eo early in the season. The favourites may be IMAMINT BAROSCOPE , GAY ROSE. The Steeplechase. A good field is drawn in the Steeplechase Handicap. Clan Ronald ivon the Greenland Steeplechase at the Great Northern meeting and was successful in a steeplechase event at Paeroa last March, as was also Golden England, who is also engaged. Spalpiko is a good jumper, while Cromwell won the Tamaki Steeplechase at the Great Northern meeting and was subsequently placed on three occasions at Gisborne. Ardmanning, who was second to him on that occasion, subsequently won the 1 skuranga Hunt Cup, and should again go well. The principal fancies may be ARDMANNING CROMWELL GOLDEN ENGLAND. The Open Sprint. Eight remain in the Flying Handicap, Namakia having been scratched. It. is reported that Sinking Fund and British Columbia are unlikely starters, but if saddled up they should go well. Royal Secret won well at Avondale. while Bonny Gay has an engagement in the Cup as well as this race. Solomon has been galloping well at To Awamutu, while Lagoon looks the best of the others. A trio that may be in demand in the absence of British Columbia and Sinking 1' und arc ROYAL SECRET SOLOMON BONNY. GAY. - The Final Event. The programme will conclude with the Hack Handicap and the public may lend most support to TTN LAP TRIUNE BELLKY RIAN. , The acceptances arc:— 12.0 — JUVENILE HANDICAP of £55. Two year-olds.
