New Zealand horses performed well at the Ascot Racing Club's meeting to-daj%

An interesting feature of the programme was the Nursery Stakes, the -first two-year-old event of the season in Sydney, which was run in three divisions. The Auckland trainer P. E. Pope supplied first and third in the first division with Gay Lot and Gay Brunette, and Sporting Blood's brother Bold Blood finished fourth. No New Zealanders started in the second division., In the third division Messrs. W. R. Kemball and S. S. Crick gained third place with Lady Ida (Lord Quex— Lady Fingers), while Lady Eleanor (Chief Ruler—Time Will Tell), also owned by them, ran sixth. Mr. W. Higgine' colt Cricket (Chief Rulers-Summer Time) was fifth.

The New Zealand-bred gelding Cherry King scored a narrow victory in the first division* of the Flying Handicap, six furlongs, which was run in 1.14, a record for the race. Princess Doreen ran third, Symcony fourth and Grand Sport fifth in tiie second division, which Fulojoy also started. The Lackham colt Debliam recorded a decisive win for Mr. Higgins in the Three and Four-year-old Maiden Welter. He is trained by T. R. George, and his success is the first gained by any member of the Trentham team on the present trip. Pope also had been out of luck until Gay Lot won. Sarcherio convincingly won the Ascot Handicap, one mile one furlong and 50yds, in 1.57 —a race record. Moneta ran second in the !• ourteen-two Handicap. At tlio Ascot races, Victoria, to-day Jack Horner ran second in the Karnak Handicap for three-year-olds, about seven furlongs, which was won by Curragh. Cape Morn ran third in the Moodemerc Trial Handicap for two-year-olds, about five furlongs. Arctic Region was unplaced in the .Teffeott Maiden Hurdle, about two miles.
