PONSONBY RELIEF.
COMMITTEE CEASING WORK,
Owing to the difficulty in meeting the heavy demandfi for extra assistance from men on sustenance, the Ponsonby branch of the Auckland Metropolitan Unemployment Relief Committee decided at a recent meeting to hand over the 300 families of unemployed men on its bookt, to the care of the metropolitan committee.
The committee at Ponsouby consists of all the clergy «in the district and representatives of tlie uuomployed men. The chairman, the Kev. Walter Ayerill, said that the falling-off in the proceeds of the art unions had led to decreased allocations for relief. The position now was that the committee had issued orders considerably in excess of the funds at its disposal. Last month it had been promised £40 for its work, and it had received £30. For the current month £40 had been promised, but all the committee had received was £14.
