At the Sydney wool sales to-day 12,735 bales were ottered and 12,100 were sold. Also 1070 bales were sold privately. l'riccs were very firm, with Japanese competition strong and increased activity by Continental buyers. Greasy Merino sold to 189 id. MELBOURNE, this day. The wool market remained firm at the opening level, top prices being 19% d for comeback and 18% d for Merino. LONDON SALES. LONDON, Octobcr 1. At the wool sales 0121 bales were offered, including 5131 New Zealand. About 0780 bales of Australian and New Zealand were sold. There were a number of withdrawals, chiefly of slipes. There was | brisk Continental and Bradford bidding. New Zealand scoured Merinos, Haldon, | top in-ice, 23d, average 21% d; greasy I crossbred, N in circle, 9%d and Bd. ■ STILL RISING. Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. have received the following cable from their London principals, Messrs. Trcngrouse and Nathan, Tooley Street, dated October 2: —Butter: Finest, 118/ per cwt; first, 115/. Cheese: 50/ per cwt. Both markets very firm. I "
