"ROBERTA" FROCKS.

CHARMING MODELS WORN

PICTURESQUE SCENES PRESENTED

The musical comedy "Roberta," which was presented by the J. C. Williamson company at His Majesty's Theatre last evening, lent itself particularly well to magnificent frocking. Tho main scenes were in ail oxciusive dressmaking salon in Paris, therefore a splendid opportunity was given to show many striking and charming models.

As tile Russian princess dress designer, Miss Madge Elliott wore a number of arresting gowns. She made her first appearance in a tunic frock of black and white. The skirt was of -black panne velvet and the white Roman satin tunic had large Russian sleeves. A bright splash of colour was supplied by a clierry-coloured sash. Another unusual costume she woro was also on Russian lines, the basqued blouse being heavily appliqucd in mauve, cyclamen, green and scarlet, and the largo sleeves being of peach-coloured georgette. Tho skirt of velvet was also appliqucd in the same colours.

An attractive gown was one of ivory georgette which was tight-fitting to the knees, from where it billowed out ii/o full points. A sash of cherry velvet with long ends made a bright touch of colour againßt the white. Silver grey georgette was another charming frock and had a clever tulle rucliing at the neck. Very handsome was tho frock of white satin which was worn by Miss Elliott in her last appearance. It had a long train of grosgrln, and tho trimmings were diamante embroidery. A circlet of diamante on the head was a striking finish to the ensemble.

As Madame Roberta, Miss Morrison wore a frock of black and gold lame fashioned on streamlines which ended in a' small train. Tho sleeves were full to the elbows, and a pointed draping fell over the shoulders into a V at the waistline. Miss Marie le Varre, who played the part of Mme. Nunez, also wore a number of attractive frocks. A deep ochre suit with ostrich feather trimming at the neck and a small turban hat of the samo shade was worn first of all. A black inarocain with gold thread was worn next, and this was followed by a handsome gown of heavy gold lace studded with sequins which was worn over an underdross of gold lame. Very smart was a walking suit of navy blue satin threaded with silver in diagonal dosign. The short jacket reached to the hipline, and accompanying the suit was a navy hat with a wide brim. The wedding frock which she also wore created a line Impression. It was of white satin threaded with gold and had a huge long train which was bordered with a deep frill of silk. Iler veil was held in place with orange blossoms and she carried scarlet lilies in a large sheaf. A backless frock of Chartreuse green velvet was worn by Miss Diana Ducano ill her first appearance. Later she wore a frock in two shades of pink and a large pink hat to match. An offwhite woollen suit with, a red blouse and a white hat was next worn, and in her final appearance she was in an evening dress of' tinsel in black, red and green tones. , The frocks of the chorus and mannequins were extremely colourful and graceful. The most conspicuous ensemble was the Shadows of Silver group in the mannequin parade. The frocks were n various shades of green, blue, pink and green tinsel, with slight trams, llic colours were beautifully blended and the effect called for applause. The theatre had been specially decorated with flags which were draped over the boxes, cellophane flowers and iestoons of lycopodium. An atmosphere of festivity relgnod at the conclusion of the | play, when streamers were thrown from I the audience on to the stage, making a I colourful final Bcene.
