OLD RAILWAY STATION SITE.

More than two years ago the need of a bus terminal in the city was so fully recognised that the City Council decided that the buses should no longer remain in Commerce Street, but should use the roads on the old railway station site. The proposed change was resisted by the bus proprietors and by the Railway Department, and ultimately nothing was done. The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, is now endeavouring to seciure the whole site by purchase from the Railways Board, and in the light of past difficulties this would seem to be the proper approach to the problem. If the old station site can be acquired at a reasonable price—and, remembering Mr. Davis' success in negotiating the purchase of the Shortland Street Post Office, Aucklanders will have confidence on this point—the way will be clear for providing several important additions to the city's amenities.
