TEACHERS LEAVING.
RESIGNATIONS IN FIJI.
NEW ZEALANDERS AFFLCIED,
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
SUVA, September 21
Although every effort has been made to keep the matter quiet it is now announced that most of the New /ea land teachers in Fiji, including the heads of the two grammar schools, are retiring and will not return next year. In the boys' school only one lady teacher will return, all the male teachers bavin? decided to leave. The headmistress, of the girls' school will aiso be accompanied by three lady teachers in leaving. The cau-s of the trouble is variously explained but it is' agreed that the teachers for some time have been dissatisfied with local conditions. They have resented having to do work of detail which should be done in the Education Office, and also enduring a shortage of materi.ll which is needed for the work of the schools. Ihe pioposcd exodus has cuused a flutter in [the community.
