AFTERNOON RECEATION.
MRS. HISLOP WELCOMED. In honour of Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, of Wellington, wife of the leader of the Democrat party, a social gathering was held yesterday afternoon in Milne and Clioyce reception hall, by the committee of the Democrat ladies' organisation. Purple and gold, the colours of the party, were effectively used to decoratc the room. On her arrival Mrs. Ilislop was received by Mrs. <T. B. Donald and. Mrs. Hugh Kasper, president and chairman respectively, of the ladies' committee. The guest of honour was presented with a bouquet of purple and gold flowers. In addition to Mrs. Hislop, others at the official table wore Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Donald, Mr. and Mrs, A. J. Stallworthy," Captain and Mrs. Hugh Kasper, and the Rev. H. Thornley. In extending a welcome to' Mrs. Hislop on behalf of the committee, Mrs. Kasper said that Mrs. Hislop, as Mayoress of "Wellington, had worked untiringly to relieve distress during the years of economic stress and strain. spite of women having had the franchise for over 40 years, as yet there had been only ono woman member of Parliament. However, women could use their votes to put good men into Parliament, and in this way they could be a considerable force. Mrs. Hislop .thanked the committee for welcome extended to her, and the afternoon concluded with tea and a musical programme.
