RAINFALL WAS LESS.

SEPTEMBER IN AUCKLAND. SQUALLY AND COLDER WEATHER. Though the weather generally was squally and colder than in the same month last year Auckland's rainfall in September was below the average, according to the figures supplied by the Government observer, Mr. S. M. Yarrop. The notable feature of the month was the storm of September 8, when a waterspout occurred at Northcote. The average rainfall in September is 3.85 inches, and last month only 2.74 inches were recorded. In September, 1934, a particularly dry month, there were 2.08 inches. Rain fell on nine days, but the major fall was on September 15, when 1.70 inches were recorded.

Winds came mostly from the east and the nor'-east and rose to gale force on five days. There was fog on one morning and dew on seven. There were no frosts, but the mean temperature was 52.59 degrees, as against 55.20 degrees in September last year. The mean maximum daily temperature was 58.50 degrees and the mean minimum 40.08 degrees. The highest temperature was recorded on Sunday last, with 02.8 degrees, while the lowest was 38.0 degrees on September 3.

In all there were 101 hours 18 minutes of sunshine, as compared with 103 hours 30 minutes last year. But only two days were entirely without sunshine. The highest recording of the month was 9 hours 54 minutes, on September 13 and 14. The mean barometric pressure for the month was 30.017 inches, compared with 29.983 inches in September, 1934.
