SWIMMING POOL.
FOR CITY'S EASTERN AREA,
DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL.
The necessity for a swimming pool to serve the eastern area of the city was impressed upon the parks comiinttee of the Auckland City Council yesterday by a deputation representing numerous sports bodies —men's and women s organisations. Mr. L. Munro, president of the Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club, headed the deputation whicti comprised members of the football, cricket, croquet, and tennis clubs of the district, also the Tamaki Ex-Servicemen's Association, Tamaki •Ratepayers' Association, Tamaki Women's Progressive League, and committees of St. Helicr's and Kohimarama schools. Referring to the necessity and value of a swimming pool in the district, Mi. Munro emphasised the importance of being able to swim and as a safeguard to life likened it second only to discovering a cure for cancer. Mrs. F. C. Webster and Miss E. Wilson, on behalf of the women's organisations, said a swimming pool in the district would afford bathing facilities to thousands of visitors, and would be useful not only to the residents but to the whole of Auckland. After other speakers had been heard the parks committee decided to refer the matter to the city engineer, Mr. ,T. Tyler, and the baths supervisor, Mr. M. E. Champion, for a joint report.
