NURSE INJURED.
THREE CARS IN SMASH. ACCIDENT NEAR HAMILTON. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Serious head injuries were suffered hv Miss Margaret Birss, aged 21, of 2, Leigliton Street, Devonport, a nurse employed at the Auckland Hospital, as the result of a motor smash, involving three ears, 011 the main south road near the Hamilton borough boundary at 9 a.m. yesterday. Miss Birss was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. A two-seater car, driven by Miss Birss and owned by Mr. Thomas Gallagher, of Edenvale Koad, Mount Eden, who was also in the car, came into collision with a car driven by Mr. W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Limited, of Peach Grove Road, Hamilton. Mr. Phillips' car, which was proceeding north, was overturned, but lie and bis companion, Mr. .T. C. Taylor, solicitor, of Hamilton, were uninjured. The car driven by Miss Birss carried on and struck a second car driven by Mr. S. E. Betts, butcher, of Cambridge, who was also travelling north. The occupants of the third car escaped injury. Miss Birss was thrown 011 to the road with considerable force, and she was seriously injured about the head. Mr. Gallagher suffered minor injuries. Considerable damage was done to all three vehicles. Mr. Gallagher's car suf* fcring the most.
