Mr. J. C. Gaye, who was until recently at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, arrived in Auckland by the Remuera on Saturday to take up a position with the British Phosphate Commission. Mr. Walter Russell-Wood, of Dunedin, after a brief visit to Auckland, left last night for Cambridge, where he is acting as judge of the elocutionary sections at the annual competitions festival, which began this morning. Mr. R. L. Stewart, of Auckland, leaves by the Niagara to-morrow on his way to India to visit his daughter, Mrs. G. I. Gray, who is engaged in missionary work in that country. Mr. Stewart will be away for about three months.

Mr. I. E. Rawnsley has been appointed pilot-instructor to the Hawke's Bay and East Coast Aero Club as successor to Mr. A. G. Gerrand, who has been appointed chief pilot for Union Airways. Mr. Rawnsley, who is at present pilotinstructor to the Wellington Club, and who lias been flying for 17 years, will take up his new duties on November 23.
