RACE IN NAVAL WHALERS. ELEVEN CLUBS COMPETE. The first sailing raco of the 1035-36 < yachting season took place on the harbour i oil Saturday, when 11 of the Auckland , yacht clubs each sent a crew to sail the 1 service whalers of the Navy under the auspices of the Naval Sailing Club, Devonport. The winning crew represented the Takapuna Boating Club, Mr. E. B. Webster , being the coxswain. The second boat flew tlio flag of the Wakatere lioating Club, with Mr. Ron Hunt as coxswain. The third boat to finish was the Victoria Club's representative, with Mr. Lou Tercel as coxswain. , The prize was a handsome silver cup anil miniature presented to the Naval Sailing Club by the officers of the New Zealand The competing clubs and their coxswains of the second boat receiving a Naval pendant. . Tho race started at o p.m. from a line between tho bow of H.M.S. Philomel and a mark moored sou'west. Tho course was from the starting line, thence round Resolution buoy off Parnell, on starboard hand, thence round a mark ofT the western wall, on starboard, thence across starting line. Dennes, starter and judge, no races were started in really hard breezes, and there were only a few minor mishaps to tho boats during the season.
