NEW SURF BOAT.

Arriving by the marama.

BOUGHT BY AUCKLAND CLUB.

A surf boat, purchased by the Piha Surf Life Saving Club, is arriving from Svdney by the Marama on Tuesday. The craft will be in commission at the west coast in the coming season. Three years aire it was specially built for the Bronte Surf Club, Sydney, at a cost of £156. It is being secured by the Auckland club for £60. It was inspected by the inspector for tlie Australian Surf Life Saving Association m July, and pronounced to be in particularly good order. The boat is 22ft long syid sft 6in beam. It has air tanks fore and aft, while for'ard is a built-in cabin for the line and life-saving gear. The crew is four oarsmen, steer-oarsman and a man for'ard to handle the gear housed there. "We will have to build a boathouse next to the clubhouse," said Mr. C. R. Holt, secretary of the club, this morning. "The boat will be eminently suited for our work, and will be excellent for rescuing persons who have been washed off rocks." Mr. Holt referred to remarkable instance of a young woman who was rescued last year at Kerikeri only with the aid of a seaplane. "It is for cases of this sort that the boat will be of great use."
