League Urges Multilateral Pacts. RETURN TO GOLD VISUALISED. British Official Wireless. (Received 4 10 a.m.) RUGBY, September 27. The second commission of the League Assembly adopted the resolution moved oil Tuesday by Dr. E. L. Burgin, British Board of Trade, recommending Governments to conclude multilateral agreements based on the most-favoured-nation clause with the object of encouraging freer trade subject, if necessary, to the provision that in the event of variation in the rate of exchange between the currencies of the contracting parties agreements may be revised at short notice.

The Assembly recognises as the ultimate objective a return to the international gold standard, but points out that effective measures to remove impediments to world trade need not wait on the restoration of the gold standard.

BRITISH EXPORTS. COAL INDUSTRY BENEFITS. British Official Wireless. (Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, September 27. According to the fourteenth annual report of the Mines Department, the output of the British coal mining industry last year was the highest since 1930. Coal exports increased as a result of trade agreements. The value of agreements with Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland show an increase of British . coal exports to those countries from 3,591,000 tons in 1931 to 7,989,000 tons in 1934.
