Reason for New Liner's
Construction
BRITAIN SEEKING PEACE. (Received 2 p.m.) , LONDON, September 27. "Some may wonder why at present we spent nearly £1,000,000 on such a ship, said Mr. Irvine Geddcs, at a mercantile luncheon held aboard the Orient Steam Navigation Company's new liner Orion. "The answer is that we are engaged in continuing business and are confident that when'the world returns to sanity, Australia's prosperity and expansion will perhaps need even larger ships." Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, proposing the success of the Orion, alluded to the absence of Mr. Bruce and eulogised the ability with which he was discharging a great duty at Geneva. Britain, said Mr. Mac Donald, had no enemy and did not desire to quarrel. No nation was more single-heartedly and with a greater sincerity working for peace than was Britain. He asked Italy, "Was it worth while?"
