SAYINGS OF PROPHETS.
Our Lord, in His teaching, often quoted sayings of the prophets and other Old Testament writers. Take, for instance, the great passage: "Come linto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls." lie seems, when He uttered these majestic words to have hud Jeremiah VI., xvi in His mind "Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest, for your souls." In the original, the "I" is emphatic. He gives what 110 one else gives or can give, and this is the only occasion in tho Bible in which tho yoke is used of allegiance to Him. It lias been pointed out, and it is worth noting, tnat tliere is a twofold rest referred to by Jesus—a rest that is given, and a res't that is found. The one is the result of our coming to Him. Tho other is found by our learning of Him, and working for Him.
