BAMBOOS.

The best time'for transplanting bamboos is in the spring, just as growth commences, September and the beginning of October being the best time. Bamboos are very useful and can be used for liedges and wind breaks. Unfortunately the majority of varieties that have been planted in the past appear to be those which send out long running suckers, with the result that they are weedy and "can become quite a pest. There are a great number of varieties that are free from this habit and form close clumps and it is these that should be planted. Some are tall—up to 40 feet—whilst others are quite small—only a foot or so high. In fact there are many quite desirable varieties that could be used with success in our gardens.
