SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The Y.W.C.A. Mothers' Club met on Tuesday, Mrs. Hynes presiding. The speaker for tho afternoon was Mrs. Chambers, who presented a very interesting discourse on "Ancient and Curious Clocks." Mrs. W. Henderson's songs wero also enjoyed.

Messrs. P. Peguero and W. Calder were hosts at a very enjoyable evening given to farewell Mrs. Charles Symes, of Grafton, who is leaving by the Rangitanc to join her husband in England, where she will make her future home. Music and games wero the order of the evening.

The ladies of St. Paul's Methodist Church, Northcote, entertained their friends in the Sunday School Hall on Tuesday afternoon. The hall was beautifully decorated with kowliai, clematis, pink, blue, green and white arum lilies, daffodils, and' other spring flowers. A very fine programme was contributed by Mrs. dc Berg, whose solos were greatly enjoyed, Mesdames W. F. Ward and W. J. Court, who contributed several duets, and Mrs. King, whose elocutionary items were much appreciated. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. T. Joll.

A very enjoyable evening was spent by tho guests of Mrs. John Nelson, Herbert Road, Mount Eden, on Wednesday night, when a successful party was given. The evening was spent in dancing, music and original games. Tlie ballroom was tastefully decorated with bowls of blue lupin, and the lounge and supper rooms with vases of blue hyacinths. Competitions were won by Misses R. Ccddcs, M. Bark and A. Dunlop. Miss Joyce Pike entertained tho guests with recitations, and Miss Nancye McLachlan gave a humorous sketch entitled "Texas Lil." Those present included Mrs. J. L. Nelson, Mrs. J. Barrett, Mrs. Victor Jones (Wellington), Misses D. French, R. Geddes, J. Pike, A. Buchanan, M. Bark, A. Dunlop, M. Speight, A. Roy and N. Mrs. Charles A. R. Scott, of Oamaru, entertained a, large number of friends at a cheery afternoon tea party at Glenalvon on Friday last. Glowing fires in tho spacious lounges offered a warm welcome and charmingly arranged spring flowers gave blight touches of colour to tho rooms. Mrs. Scott wore a frock of black windswept satin and lace. Her guests included: Lady Sinclair Lockhart, Mesdames R. E. Isaacs, P. A. Lindsay, E. A. Clive, Humphrey-Haines, Kenton Watt, E. W. Fish, Lonsdale Pritt, R. Coleman W. Wintle, Cyril Tewsley, John Reid, Cuthbort Mitford, G. Kent, W. G. Napier, 11. P. Bloomfield, G. 11. Kissliiisr M. Hart, Clive Coleman, Goodwin, Ford, A. G. Talbot, Noel Gibson, Walter Boyle, Misses Francis Gibson F. Murray. Edith Isaacs, Jocelyn Fish, Nellie 'Turner, Muriel Darling. Dina and Irene Tsaaes, Jean Kent, Jessie Watson, Aila and Beryl Beetham. Mrs. Scott, who spends tlie winter in Auckland each year, will be leaving on her return to the South within the next fortnight.
