SON SUES FATHER.
CLAIM FOR MAINTENANCE. PUBLIC GIFTS MENTIONED 1 . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OHRISTOI-lUROII, thjs day. Robert E. Green, who donated the clock towers at Sumner and New Brighton, appeared as defendant in a maintenance case at the Magistrate's Court this morning, when lie was sued by his son, Frederick Ernest Green, of Sydney, a carpenter, who was described as a destitute person. Counsel for the son alleged that Green, sen., had spent large sums of money to vent his spite on his family and to stop them from getting his inonoy. Defendant was 83 or 84 years of age. He had made an offer to the Christcliurch City Council to give the city a statue at a cost of between £1000 and £2000, •but the council had refused the oiler, declaring that defendant should make proper provision for his family. Immediately after that anonymous offers had been made of gift clock towers for Now Brighton and Sumner and subsequent events had proved that Green, sen., had made the offers. Defendant received an annuity of £7 a week. Cecil Green, a son, said that his brother Frederick had been unemployed since 1930. . His brother could hardly sec, had no prospects of work and was absolutely destitute.
