DESERTION CHARGE.
Wairuna's Crew Arrested in Vancouver. DISPUTE OVER UNLOADING. (Received 1.30 p.m.) VANCOUVER, September 20. Thirty-one members of the crew of the Wairuna were arrested and charged with desertion after leaving the vessel following refusal to furnish steam because the ship was unloaded by nonunion men at the time of the longshoremen's strike. The men requested deportation by the immigration officials, but the police acted on warrants sworn by the captain and officers. The stewards remained on board.
