WEEK OPENS STEADY.

FAIR BUSINESS RECORDED,

The Auckland Stock Exchange started the new week with a fair list of sales for the first call.' Bidding, however, was not keen, and values seem to be settling at a lower level. In the banking section Nationals held to late levels, with a transaction at £3 12,6 and more wanted at that figure. Commercials were steady between 16/3 and 10/6, and other issues showed little changes. In insurances Nationals sold 3d cheaper at £1 0/6, but otherwise there was little variation from late rarcs. Coal shares were in good demand, and there were inquiries tor Pukemiros, Renowns and Taupiris on tho basis of late quotations. Colonial Sugars were farm, with buyers at £43 and no sellers. Recent easing in Goldsbrough, Morts was confirmed with a sale 1/6 down, at! £1 11/6, after which the market rested between £1 10/6 and £1 12/3. Government stocks were practically unchanged. Large Stock Issue Sold. This morning"s steady tone was again in evidence at the noon call, a feature being a large parcel of Government stocks, which changed hands at a slightly improved figure. The total value was well over £6000, and the price paid, £109 2/8, was 2/6 above the previous quotation in August. £100.
