SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A very pleasant afternoon was tendered on Friday by members of the Daisy Chain Club to Mrs. Basham (Aunt Daisy) in honour of her birthday. The president, Mrs. Lord, presided and musical and vocal items were rendered by members. A dainty afternoon tea with birthday cake was served during the afternoon.

A delightful party was given in the Broadway lounge, Papakura, by Mr, and Mrs. Len Smced in honour of their daughter Thelma's twenty-first birthday. Among those present were: Mesdarues Dixon, A. Cossey, Blank, Da vies, K. Dickey, Pasco, TV. Platt, T. Dickey, W. ITalliday, Misses K. Evans, O. Burns, M. Paeco, D. Blank, A. Evans, 11. Beams, R. Burns, K. Platt, S. Evans, Bains, V. Cossey, V. Pratt, ft. Blank, A. Cartwright, S. Donnell, F. Dickey and Daphne Blank.

There was a very large attendance of outside visitors from Otamarakau. Pongakawa, Pacngaroa, Te Puke and Papamoa at the Ponjrakawa Valley Tennis Club dance held last night in the Pongakawa Valley Hall. The hall had been artistically decorated with ferns and streamers. The dance was well organised, the music being supplied by the Ambassador's Orchestra. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. Paterson, while the statue waltz was won by Miss Peggy Wood and Mr. Mick Nicholls.

A very enjoyable evening was spent at the Overseas Club rooms on Saturday evening when the Frivolity Dance Club held another of its monthly dances. The rooms were tastefully decorated with large bowls of montbrctia and arum lilies and a cheery fire added warmth to the function. The secretary of the club, Miss Lola Myers, was hostess for the evening in a frock of oyster Chantilly lace and net. Music was supplied by Eady's Orchestra.

Among the guests were: Mesdames C. M. Rattray, J. Fitzsimons, F. White. Evven Clark, B. Tomkinson, J. Gray, Misses Jean Morton Smith, Jean Gray. Myrtle Burns, Kay Spriggs, Babbage, K. Melville, J. Bayliss, Crump.
