BIRD SANCTUARY.
CLOSING OF LAKE ROTOITI.
The Auckland Zoological Society at a meeting yesterday decided to draw the attention of the Government to the diminution in the number of water fowl and the desirability of declaring Lake Rotoiti and certain other lakes in that locality to be closed areas during the course of the ehooting season. In a general discussion on the subject the opinion was expressed that some further protection was essential for water fowl, and particularly for grey duck.
