SPY ROMANCE.

Story of Fascinating Swiss Blonde's Love Tangle.

FRENCH COURT-MARTIAL.

(Received 10.30 a.m.)

BREST, September 11

Mademoiselle Lydia Oswald, 29, who was born in Switzerland and is a fascinating blonde and a self-confessed spy, appeared at a naval court-martial to-dav in one of tlie most sensational espionage trials for years. She and her lovar, Lieutenant Jean de Forceville, and a fellow officer, Lieutenant Rene Guignard, were all charged with being involved in obtaining important national defence secrets.

The story, unfolded behind locked doors, showed how Lydia attempted to enmesh a young French naval officer and how, instead, he stole her heart. She then deliberately turned the tables on the foreign Tower employing her.

Judgment was reserved.

It was later announced that Mile. Lydia Oswald had been sentenced to nine months' imprisonment, and the tuo naval officers acquitted. She paid' a tribute to the gallantry of the French officers. She said she came to Brest to spy, but their nobility and chivalry had made her change her plans.
