TAMAKI YACHT CLUB.

ANNUAL PRIZE NIGHT. FIRST IN NEW CLUBHOUSE. With seas driven well up on the Bastion Point by a fresh north-easter, the clubhouse of the Tamaki Yacht Club was given a true nautical setting on Saturday evening when the club's prize distribution was held for the first time in its own clubrooms. The hall was suitably dressed with bunting and pictures of yachts, Mr. T. O. M. Sopwith'a gift having pride of place. The guests included the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, patron of the club, Captain X. Hayashi, commander of the .Japanese training ship, Shintoku Ma.ru, and Captain X. Sano, chief of instruction staff, Lieutenant-Commander J. T. Lean, H.M.S. Philomel, Mr. C. H. Palmer and the officers of local yacht clubs. They were received by Mrs. J. Moore, president of the ladies' committee, and the. commodore, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson. Before presenting the prizes, Mr. Davis said that the club was to be congratulated on its enterprise in building such a line clubhouse on what he firmly believed was the most suitable place for a yacht club he had seen anywhere. He paid a tribute to the splendid work of the ladies and the long service of the commodore in the interests of the sport. When introducing Captains Hayashi and .Sano, of the Shintoku Maru, Mr. Davis said that they were doing good work in training young men to be officers on their ships and it was high time Xew Zealand boys were given similar opportunities. Mr. Davis pointed out that it was only four years to the centenary of the Dominion. Plans were already being made to celebrate the occasion in a fitting manner. A big aquatic pageant and regatta would be an important part of the celebrations, -and he would like to see boate from Australia, and possibly England, taking part. It would be the duty of all local clubs to help in euch matters and he was already moving in this direction. The principal prize-winners were:— L. Class.— Tamariki (C. J. Collings), Mr. Ernest Davis' prize and two other prizes; Koimiri (Worthington Bros.), commodore's prize and two other prizes; Marie (A. L. Barker), Mr. A. Walker's prize and one other; Marika (R. Judd), Varuna (L. Sands) and Rakoa (W. J. Wiiui) one prize each. V Class.—Atalanta (B. Wilson), Mr. C. Lawford'a trophy and three other prizes; Arline ((.'. Scott), Messrs. Donaghy'a trophy and two other prizes; Surprise (J. Dickson), Mr. H. Howson's trophy and two other prizes; Sceptre, MiMiitilu, Drone. Manutere, Avian and -Mischief, one prize each. M Class.—Manene (R. L. Stewart), Mr. Frank Binney's trophy. S Class.—llarl'ene (L. Bouzaid), Captain D. MeCroneV. trophy and two other prizes; Xamu (S. Ramsey), Mr. W. E. Wilson's trophy and one other prize; Sirona (C. S. Oec), Mr. Warwick Jack-c-on's trophy; Mistral and Seymour, one prize each. T Class.—Treasure (H. Bailey), Mr. Fred. H. Browne and Mr. W. J. Goodfellowehip Cup.—Tamaki v. Takapuna; Tamaki crew, Messrs. W. Jackson and S. Nicholas, winners. Rowing Club Fours. —Waitemata B.C. Xo. 2 crew, the Xixon Cup. Local Yacht Race.—Menuitu (Mr. Don Blake). Prizes won in sweepstake races on December 1 and April 6 wore also presented. Model Yacht Harbour Race.—First prize, cup presented by Mr. Erneet Davis,' won by Mr. Graham Park'e Kauri III.; second prize. Renown (X. Kuekland) ; third prize, Waitere 11. (W. A. Willetts); fourth prize, Okere (H. Crockett). Also champion flag for first 4-footer, presented by Mr. Ernest Davis, won by Waitere, and for first 3-footer, presented by Mr. Wilkinson, won by Mise Orakei (Mr. Roy McKay). When thanking Mr. Davis for presenting the prizes, Mr. Wilkinson said they were indebted to their patron for many favours. Mr. Davis supported all forms of sport, but as a yachtsman for over 40 years, he was moet generous to aquatic clubs. He hoped Mr. Davis would be in oflice in 1940, as he was the right man to see that Auckland made an aquatic display worthy of the centenary celebrations. Mr. Wilkinson also thanked the officers of sister clubs, and mentioned that) every club on the Waitemata and Manukau was represented; also Howick, Otahuhu and Panmure Clubs.
