ACCOUNTANCY PROGRESS
POST-GRADUATE RESEARCH, i I In compliance with a remit adopted at the Third Convention of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, the council of the society is investigating the question of post-graduate research in suitable subjects. Meanwhile this kind of study is being promoted by the Commonwealth Institute of Accountants. The plan evolved there provides for the ; formation of post-graduate groups (with a minimum of six students in each group) in the following subjects: — (1) Federal taxation, (2) cost accounting, (3) budgetary control, (4) statistics as applied to business, (o) bankruptcy, (0) banking principles and practice, (7) economics, finance and foreign exchange, (8) company finance. The activities of the groups would comprise discussions of mutual problems of members, research, publicity, recommendations for awards of post graduate honours. It is mentioned that members of each group would be entitled to submit a thesis on the subject matter under research by the particular group each year aJid it is suggested that the thesis should contain original thought and not be a summary or an enlargement of matter already contained in text books. In view of the proposed nature of the research, the writers of the approved theses would be given the distinction of honoursmen for the current year of the award.
