NEARLY 200.
LIST OF CANDIDATES.! OTHERS STILL TO COME. VOTE-SPLITTING EVIDENT. More than 50 additional candidates for seats at the approaching general election have been announced eince the last list was published, a month ago. The candidates now in the field number }07, and as polling day is probably three months off it is likely that the final total will average more than three candidates for each of the SO seats. Since the last list was published a number of Democrat candidates have been officially announced, but in many electorates the party's choice is still being awaited with interest, this being particularly so in the Auckland metropolitan area. That there will be a great deal of vote-splitting at the polls is obvious from the fact that in no fewer than 33 constituencies three or more candidates have already been announced, while in a number of electorates, where so far there are only two candidates, the Democrat nominee has not been made public. In the following list of candidates sitting members are denoted by an asterisk, and the following abbreviations are used:—National (N), Democrat (D), Labour (L), Liberal (Lib), Country (C), Communist (Com), Reform (Ref), Independent (I), Rataua (Rat).
