BREACH OF PROMISE.
THE WANGANUI CASE.
GIFT ALLEGATION- DENIED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The attention of the United Press Association has been drawn by Mr. W. E. Leicester, counsel for Miss Gladys May Ritchie, to a statement contained in the report of her breach of promise action against William Thomas Ridd, heard in tho Supx - eme Court at Wanganui on August 19 and 20 before hie Honor the Chief Justice. In giving judgment for £600 in favour of Miss Ititehie< his Honor made reference to evidence given by the defendant that between 1927 and 1931 he had made gifts of the equivalent value of £900 to Miss Ritchie, who in her evidence emphatically denied that such gifts had been made.
It has been represented to the Press Association that the report of the judg- ; ment might be read as implying , tlfat the gifts had been made, though actually the Chief Justice made no finding whatever in regard to the matter. The Prejw Association expresses its regret it the report issued by it was capable of any implication that the Chief Justice found that the alleged gifte had be'en made to Miss Ritchie.
