IN HER STOCKING.
STOLEN NOTES WORTH £10. WOMAN'S THEFT IN SHOP. "TUis woman lias two previous convictions for theft and is at present on probation for theft," said Sub-Inspector Fox when speaking of Elizabeth Maud Aherhart, aged 46, who appeared in the Police Court to-day mid admitted a charge of stealing £10, the property of William Tinson.
Mr. Fox said Mrs. Aberhart entered a shop yesterday and told an assistant that .she wanted to interview the manager to see if he would lend her some money to start a maternity home. After accused left the shop the assistant discovered that a £5 note and five £1 notes were mittsing from the shop. Accused was followed and brought back. She then denied stealing the money, but when a constable was sent for she produced the £10 in notes from her stocking and handed it to the assistant.
Mr. Aekins, who appeared for Mrs. Aberhart, said she required some "money to pay a valuation fee on some property. Counsel said the money had been handed back immediately.
Mr. Hunt: Yes; with the aid of the police.
Accused was remanded for a week for sentence, the magistrate directing that further inquiries should be made about the woman.
